
Women's Tennis Prepared For Fall Home Opener

EAST LANSING, Mich.-The Michigan State women's tennis team begins fall action this weekend in East Lansing as it hosts the La Salle Bank Spartan Invitational. The tournament will be have a mock-dual format with teams from Ball State, Detroit Mercy, Morehead State, Illinois State, Indiana State, Eastern Michigan, and St. Louis University each facing three opponents in singles and three opponents in doubles. Matches will be played at the MSU Outdoor Tennis courts beginning at 8 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. In the event of rain, matches will be played at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
Michigan State finished the 2006 season with a 14-10 mark and a Big Ten record of 4-7. The MSU roster of eight will remain the same as 2005-06, although the Spartans will be headed up by first-year head coach Erica Perkins, and first-year assistant Stefan Naughton. Perkins comes to East Lansing from William and Mary where she served as an assistant coach. Her coaching tenure also includes a stint as head coach at Georgia Southern, following an outstanding college career at Washington State. Naughton joins the MSU staff after ending his playing career at the University of Louisville in the spring.
The Spartans will be led by seniors Sarah Andrews, Jessica Baron, and Pascale Schnitzer. They will be joined by junior Christine Bader, and sophomores Marianne Eelens, Stephanie Kebler, Aglaya Kokurina, and Ana Milosavljevic.
