EAST LANSING, Mich. - Seven members of the Michigan State gymnastics team have been named NACGC/W Academic All-Americans for the 2006 season by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women (NACGC/W). Spartans Dani Fanning, Victoria Iakounina, Leia Langhoff, Megan McNally, Jaime Miles, Katlyn Roggensack and Jenna Russell have all been honored for their outstanding performance in the classroom. To qualify as an NACGC/W All-American, student-athletes must maintain a 3.5 cumulative grade-point average.
"I'm very excited that our team members continue to excel in their academic endeavors," Spartan head coach Kathie Klages said. "We have seven gymnasts named to the NACGC/W academic All-American team this year, which is over half of our team. I'm very proud of the dedication these young ladies put forth in the classroom."
Since the 1989 season, Michigan State has earned 60 selections, honoring 30 student-athletes, to the NACGC/W Academic All-America squad. State earned its highest number of honorees during the 2005 season when eight members of the team were selected. Under the direction of Klages, Michigan State has earned 58 selections, honoring 29 student-athletes, to the NACGC/W Academic All-America squad.
