EAST LANSING, Mich. - Head Coach Kathie Klages is pleased to announce the signing of Rochelle Robinson (Chesapeake, Va.) to a national letter of intent to compete for the Spartan gymnastics team beginning with the 2006-07 season. Robinson's addition increases the size of the 2010 gymnastics class to five, joining early commits Megan Bergland (Richland, Mich.), Nicole Curler (Bay City, Mich.), Emily Lopatofsky (Waymart, Pa.) and Kelly Moffitt (Flora, Ind.) in one of the nation's most talented recruiting classes.
"We are so excited to add Rochelle to our already outstanding recruiting class," said head coach Kathie Klages."With the depth of this class, combined with the success of the 2006 team, we believe we will challenge for a Big Ten title and compete for an NCAA championship appearance as early as next season."
Robinson is a Level 10 competitor from Ocean Tumblers Gymnastics, where she is coached by Diane Berry and Rick Walker. In 2004, Robinson captured the Junior Olympic National vaulting title, and added a ninth-place finish on floor exercise. Robinson also qualified for the 2006 Junior Olympic Championships, which will be held in Oklahoma City, April 29-30.
"Rochelle excels in the vault and is an exceptional tumbler," added Klages. "She has someunique skills on theuneven bars and is consistent on the balance beam. We are very happy to welcome Rochelle to the Spartan gymnastics family."
The five-member incoming class will complement the ten returning Spartans nicely, as the 2007 team will strive to reach regional competition for the 17th time in school history and the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1988.
