MSU Concludes Big Ten Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Michigan State concluded the third and final day of the Big Ten Championships, Saturday evening in Bloomington, Ind. Adding to his fifth place finish in the 100 breaststroke a day ago, Ian Clutten took fourth in the 200 breast, posting an NCAA `B' qualifying time of 1:58.88.
"We had a great finish tonight, I am really proud of our guys," head coach Matt Gianiodis said. "We didn't open very strong the first two days and had some tough breaks - we could have folded it up and headed for the bus, but we came out and had a terrific run today."
Other top times for the Spartans was an 11th place finish by Adam Schmitt in the 100 free (44.73) and a 15th place finish in the 200 back by Johan Sunryd (1:49.98).
Having lost points in the relays the previous day, the 400 free team of Matt Wisniewski, Rudolf Wagenaar, David Habel and Schmitt made sure there were no errors on Saturday, taking seventh with a time of 2:58.55.
As a team, MSU finished 10th with 123 points, Indiana captured the Big Ten team title with a score of 760.5. The final standings are as follows:
