East Lansing, Mich. - Michigan State never trailed, and improved its record to 9-4 on the season, with a 193.875-192.425 victory over the University of New Hampshire Saturday night from Jenison Fieldhouse. The Spartans received individual titles on the vault from junior Victoria Iakounina and on the bars from junior Kristen Coleman, en route to setting team season-high scores on both events.
Michigan State jumped out to an early advantage, posting a 48.975 on the Vault in the first rotation. Iakounina notched a 9.875, tying for first on the event and leading a strong performance by the Green and White. Chayla Hill posted a 9.825, Bethany Little scored a 9.800 and the Spartans were able to discard a 9.725.
The Spartans increased their lead in the second rotation, posting a 48.650 on uneven bars. Junior Kristen Coleman captured first-place honors with a 9.800, while classmate Iakounina placed third with a 9.775.
New Hampshire inched closer on the third rotation, posting a 48.000 on floor while MSU managed a 47.950 on the beam. Iakounina posted Michigan State's high score in the event, a 9.775, and finished third. Freshman Katlyn Roggensack turned in a strong performance leading off the event for the Green and White, netting a 9.725.
Michigan State wrapped up the meet with 48.300 on the floor exercise, paced by a second-place finish by Hill, who scored a 9.775.
Coleman and Iakounina each placed in the all-around competition. Coleman was third with a 38.800, while Iakounina finished second with a score of 39.000. New Hampshire's Amanda Hall captured the all-around, posting a 39.125.
The Spartans will return to action on Feb. 24 against Alaska Anchorage. The meet marks the final regular-season home contest for the Green and White, before returning on March 25 to host the Big Ten Championship.
