Spartan Gymnasts Compete At Annual Green And White Meet

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State gymnastics team competed in its annual Green and White Meet on Friday at Jenison Field House, where the White team tallied 115.625 points to defeat the Green team (114.325). Senior Kristen Coleman won the all-around competition with a score of 38.225, while freshmen Nicole Curler (38.150) and Emily Lopatofsky (38.125) finished second and third, respectively, in their first exhibition as members of the Spartan squad.
"This was a great experience for our team to be able to perform in front of such a great crowd tonight," Spartan head coach Kathie Klages said. "The opportunity to compete really helped us get the nerves out of our system. I am very pleased with where our team is right now in our training, and I want to personally thank the great crowd we had tonight for joining us at this annual event."
Senior Chayla Hill captured the vault title with a score of 9.775, while Curler and freshman Rochelle Robinson were just behind with scores of 9.750 and 9.725, respectively. Freshman Megan Bergland took top honors on the uneven bars with a score of 9.750, followed by Coleman (9.700) and Curler (9.625) for the top three places on the event.
Hill also took first on the floor exercise with impressive choreography and tumbling for a score of 9.850. Curler (9.800) and sophomore Katlyn Roggensack (9.650) took second and third, respectively on the floor. Junior Megan McNally scored a 9.500 for first place on the balance beam, followed by the freshman duo of Lopatofsky and Bergland, who posted scores of 9.400 and 9.300, respectively, in their first competition for MSU.
Michigan State begins the 2007 campaign when it hosts Arizona on Jan. 12. The meet is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. on the main competition floor at Jenison Field House.
