COLUMBUS, Ohio - Michigan State struck first, but came out on the wrong end of a 3-1 score as the men's soccer team was eliminated from the Big Ten Tournament by Ohio State on Nov. 2. Rauwshan McKenzie notched the Spartan score, his first of the season.
Scoring on the Spartans' only shot in the first period, McKenzie's goal came at 31:47. Receiving a free kick two yards outside of the box, Ben Pirmann served a ball in front of the goal and McKenzie headed it in for a 1-0 Michigan State lead.
Ohio State answered with less than three minutes remaining in the first half, when Eric Edwards followed in a Jim Fisher rebound from within the six-yard box. The two teams entered halftime tied 1-1.
Michigan State picked up the attack in the second half, but so did the Buckeyes, as the Green and White was outshot 19-6.
The Buckeyes scored the game-winner at 73:46 and added a breakaway goal in the final minute for a 3-1 win.
"Ohio State had a real nice second half and a great second goal," Michigan State head coach Joe Baum said. "I wish them the best of luck in the second round."
