EAST LANSING, Mich. - Two Michigan State women's soccer players have earned slots on the 2006 Big Ten All-Freshman team, with roommates Lauren Hill (Northville, Mich./Northville) and Lauren Sinacola (Rochester, Mich./Adams) both earning slots on the 11-member team, the conference office announced on Thursday morning.
Junior Lauren Astry (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie) also earned recognition from the Big Ten Conference as one of the 11 Sportsmanship Award honorees. A midfielder, Astry started all 18 games and added an assist for the Spartans.
Hill, a forward, burst onto the college soccer scene by tying a school and Big Ten record with four goals against Western Michigan in her second game on Aug. 27, the day before her first class at MSU. She continued to befuddle defenses all year long, leading the Spartans with eight goals, 18 points and three game-winning goals. A speedy attacker, Hill started the first 17 games of the season, posting a two-goal game against Cincinnati on Sept. 7 and notching a game-winner in the 86th minute against two-time defending MAC champion Bowling Green on Sept. 15.
