Men's Soccer Falls In Regular-Season Finale

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State scored a goal in each period and held Michigan State to just two shots on goal, defeating the Spartans, 2-0, in the last regular-season game of the year on Oct. 29. MSU will have its chance to play Ohio State again in the quarterfinals of Big Ten Tournament on Nov. 2.
The Buckeyes' Ryan Kustos scored the game-winning goal in the 14th minute, heading a free kick served from the midfield past Spartan goalkeeper Jason Tillman. A late defensive breakdown by the Green and White resulted in the second Ohio State score at 84:47.
Facing 15 shots, Tillman came up with four saves on the day. Doug DeMartin was credited with three of the Spartans' eight total shot attempts.
Michigan State concludes the regular season with an overall record of 10-6-2, while going 1-3-2 in Big Ten play. Reaching 10 wins, MSU has recorded seven double-digit win totals since 2000.
Ohio State will also host this year's conference tournament Nov. 2-5. Indiana clinched the regular season title and the No. 1 seed heading into the tournament with its 1-0 win against Wisconsin on Oct. 27. As the top seed, Indiana receives a first-round bye and will play the first quarterfinal winner (No. 4 Penn State vs. No. 5 Northwestern) on Nov. 3.
The Buckeyes garner the No. 2 seed in the tournament after beating third-seed Wisconsin in the teams' head-to-head competition during the regular season. OSU and No. 7 MSU are scheduled to play in the third quarterfinal game of the first day of Big Ten Tournament.
No. 3 Wisconsin ended the season with a record of 3-2-1 and will match up against sixth-seeded Michigan, with a conference mark of 1-2-3.
Defending regular season and tournament champion Penn State finished the conference regular season with a 3-3-0 mark to earn the No. 4 seed. The Nittany Lions will play against a fifth-seeded Northwestern team that posted a 2-4-0 record in conference play. The Wildcats secured the No. 5 seed by beating No. 6 Michigan, 2-0, in the regular season.
