The Spartan gymnastics team improved to 3-1, 1-0 Big Ten with a road victory over conference foe Ohio State 193.075 to 192.400 Saturday night. State's Kristen Coleman took second in the all-around competition with a combined 38.950, including a first place score of 9.800 on the uneven bars. On the vault, MSU took two of the top three spots with Iakounina's first place finish and a third place finish by Alexander tying a season-high with a 9.775 for the event. Iakounina would tie OSU's Alyssa Meyer for a second place finish on the uneven bars with a 9.700 behind Coleman.
The Spartans Chayla Hill would tie OSU's Maalika Moore-Thomas with a 9.775 on the balance beam, followed by Iakounina's 9.75 on the event. The Green and White would hold momentum on the floor exercise, as Alexander's second place mark (9.850), and co-captain Chayla Hill's 9.825 third place tally, helped propel MSU to its third victory of the 2006 season.
The Spartans claimed the vault (48.800) and uneven bar (48.275) events, while the Buckeyes managed to dominate the balance beam (47.925) and floor exercise (48.875) competitions on their home floor.
