MSU won its fifth consecutive game over Illinois, the longest winning streak for the Spartans in series history...Coach McCallie is now 7-4 vs. Illinois, 4-2 in East Lansing.
MSU extended its school record home-court winning streak to 23 games. The Spartans are 10-0 at home this season.
Liz Shimek registered her 30th career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. It's the seventh double-double of the season for Shimek.
Lindsay Bowen tied her career high with five steals...she scored the first eight points of the game to give the Spartans an 8-0 lead at the 17:09 mark...she hit two 3-pointers, which ties her with Caity Matter of Ohio State for second-most made in Big Ten history with 270...she finished with 16 points.
Bowen hit two free throws in the game, passing Julie Pagel in the MSU career record books...Bowen is now fifth in school history with 283 free throws made.
Maggie Dwyer collected a career-high nine rebounds, including four on the offensive end.
Aisha Jefferson scored a career-high 12 points.
The 17 points by Illinois in the first half were the fewest MSU has allowed this season. Last season, Indiana only scored 17 points in the first half on Jan. 30, 2005. It was the lowest for a Spartan opponent since Central Connecticut State scored 16 points on Nov. 20, 2004 in East Lansing...Illinois shot just 24 percent in the first half (6-for-25) and 39 percent for the game.
