
Eight Spartan Gymnasts Receive Academic All-American Honors

A program record eight Michigan State gymnasts have been recognized as National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women Academic All-Americans for their efforts in the classroom during the 2004-05 school year. To qualify for Academic All-American honors in gymnastics, student-athletes must have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.50 during the 2004-05 academic year.
This season's Spartan honorees are Kristen Coleman (Cornwall, Ontario), Anna Hunsinger (Elizabethtown, Ky.), Victoria Iakounina (Dumfries, Va.), Julianna Karall (Chicago, Ill.), Leia Langhoff (Midland, Mich.), Jaime Miles (Sterling Heights, Mich.), Jenna Rivers (Hauppauge, N.Y.) and Lauren Simpson (Fenton, Mich.).
A sophomore kinesiology major, Coleman earned a GPA of 3.58. As a high school senior she graduated third in her class from
Hunsinger, a senior, was selected as an Academic All-American for the fourth-straight season. A kinesiology major, she posted a 3.72 GPA in 2005.
Iakounina is a member of the Academic All-American team for the second-consecutive season. The 2004 Big Ten freshman of the year, she boasts the highest GPA on the team, a 3.86 mark in Microbiology.
Karall, a junior, scored a 3.54 GPA as a General Business major with an emphasis in Pre-Law.
Langhoff is a two-time Academic All-American selection; the junior also received the honor as a freshman in 2003. In 2005 the chemistry major accumulated a 3.60 GPA.
With a 3.76 GPA in kinesiology as a junior, Miles qualified for her second straight Academic All-American team during the 2005 campaign.
Rivers is also making her second-consecutive appearance as an All-American Academic selection. The sophomore is a Finance/Pre-Law Major with a 3.62 GPA.
Simpson, a Veterinary Medicine major has qualified for the Academic All-American team for the fourth time in her career. She boasts a 3.82 GPA and plans to attend veterinary school after graduation.
As a team, the Spartans' cumulative GPA of 3.32 placed 25th among varsity gymnastics programs nationwide.
