
Ryan Brehm Qualifies For The 2005 Buick Open

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State sophomore Ryan Brehm (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) has qualified for this weekend's 2005 Buick Open. Brehm fired a 5-under 67 and tied for third with Matt Seppanen at the Monday (July 25) open qualifier at the Fieldstone Golf Club in Auburn Hills, Mich. Brehm was just one shot behind first-place finishers Sean Murphy and Billy McKay, who both shot a 66.
Brehm along with former Spartan Jimmy Chestnut (2002-05; Grand Blanc, Mich.) will represent MSU at this week's Buick Open. Chestnut received a sponsor's exemption into the event as he was raised at Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich.
The Buick Open runs Thursday through Sunday with today (Tuesday, July 26) scheduled for practice and Wednesday as the pro-am. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 800-878-OPEN. USA Network will cover the event on Thursday and Friday from 4-6 p.m., while CBS carries the event Saturday and Sunday from 3-6 p.m.

In addition to Brehm, five former Spartans also played in Monday's qualifier. Eric Jorgensen (2000-03) and Nathan Clark (1999-2002) finished in a 15-way tie for seventh after both players shot a 3-under 69. Andrew Ruthkoski (2002-05) and Brent Goik (1998-2001) tied for 44th with an even-par 72, while John Koskinen (2001-03) placed 57th with a 73.
