EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State junior swimmer Ian Clutten (Capetown, South Africa) will compete in the 2005 NCAA Men's Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota's University Aquatic Center in Minneapolis, Minn., on March 24-26 at noon.
Clutten is the lone representative for the Spartans, competing in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events on Friday and Saturday. Last season, he represented MSU at the NCAA Championships, finishing 30th in the 200 breast with a time of 2:16.56, and 31st in the 100 breast with a time of 1:01.96.
Clutten finished third in the 100 (53.77) and 200 (1:58.81) breast at last month's Big Ten Championships, while helping MSU to a ninth-place finish.
"I hope he goes up there and really enjoys the experience," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis. "The previous two years he has been a little nervous about things, but this year he is loose and confident and ready to swim well. Hopefully he can score the team some points."
