Michigan State Gymnastics Falls To No. 7 Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State gymnastics (17-11) fell to No. 7 Michigan (16-3) at Jenison Field House on Friday, March 18. The Spartans posted a team total of 195.075, their second-best team score this season, while the Wolverines had 196.500.
"Our team had an outstanding night," Michigan State head coach Kathie Klages said. "In considering how many injuries we are battling, it is pretty amazing that we were able to post such a solid score. I am very proud of my team and especially proud of the senior class. It's an emotional night."
State managed to hit the 195-mark, a season-long goal, for the third time in 2005. MSU's excelled across the board, posting 48.675 on vault, 48.950 on both the bars and on the floor, and 48.500 on the beam.
Sophomore Chayla Hill led MSU on the vault, registering 9.825, while junior Leia Langhoff ranked second for the Spartans, posting 9.800 in one of her best vault performances this season.
Senior Lauren Simpson and sophomore Kristen Coleman were standouts on the bars, both recording 9.825 for their efforts. Junior Sarah Alexander also enjoyed success on the bars, posting 9.800.
The Spartans beam score of 48.500 was just .50 off of Michigan's beam performance, led by Wolverine sensation Elise Ray with a near-perfect 9.975. Simpson and junior Jaime Miles led MSU in the event, as both had 9.875 on the beam.
Senior Jennifer Yarbrough and Alexander shone on the floor, posting 9.875 to rank first for MSU. Sophomore Chayla Hill, a consistent top-performer on the floor, posted 9.825.
Up next, MSU heads to Iowa City, Iowa, for the Big Ten Championship meet on March 26 at 6 p.m.
