
Clutten Sets Pool Record At OSU Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Senior Ian Clutten won the 100 breaststroke Saturday afternoon at the Ohio State Invitational, setting a Peppe Natatorium record with a time of 54.68. The Spartans also had several top finishes from both their men's and women's relay teams. The three-day invitational wraps up Sunday afternoon.
"Ian had a great swim and made the NCAA `B' mark," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "Our relays performed well and we were pretty happy with the day. Overall, we are accomplishing what we set out to do."
In the men's relays, the 800 freestyle `A' team of Adam Schmitt, David Habel, Matt Wisieswki and Rudolf Wagenaar finished fourth with a time of 6:46.96, while the `B' team of Matt McNichols, Krzysztof Olszewski, David Lessard and John Henry Berg finished ninth at 6:58.20. The 200 medley relay team of Wagenaar, Clutten, Nick Harley and Wisniewski also took fourth, touching at 1:30.14.
Individually Wagenaar swam to a seventh place finish (50.28) in the 100 back, while John Sunryd took ninth (50.75). Others earning top-ten finishes for the men were Wisenieswki in the 100 fly and Habel in the 400 IM, both taking eighth, finishing in 51.19 and 4:10.29, respectively.
For the women, the top finisher individually was Courtney Ellabarger who took second in the 100 breaststroke at 1:04.74, just fractions of a second behind the leader. Taking 10th in the event was Erika Templeton, finishing at 1:06.62.
Heather Kiluk earned a ninth place finish in the 400 IM (4:29.12) and Rachael Hagerman swam to 10th place in the 100 fly (57.66). Barely missing out on the top-ten was Carly Zenk, who finished 11th in the 100 back at 59.88.
In the relays, the 200 medley quartet of Zenk, Ellabarger, Hagerman and Katrina Kniff finished third (1:44.66) and the 800 freestyle team of Amanda Wyman, Kiluk, Julie Kahn and Marlys Fuqua took seventh, finishing at 7:41.94.
