EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's swimming and diving team travels to Ann Arbor, Friday, Oct. 28, to take on Michigan at 6 p.m., in their first Big Ten meet of the year.
"Our diving always does pretty well down there and we have a couple of events we can be pretty competitive with," head coach Matt Gianiodis said. "We haven't beat Michigan in a long time. Hopefully we can be competitive in the meet, that is always our goal."
The Wolverines edged the Spartans, 159-133 last year, in East Lansing. Senior Courtney Ellabarger and sophomore Danielle Williams each captured two first-place finishes in the 2004 meet. Ellabarger took both the 100 breast and the 200 breast, while Williams finished first in the one-meter and the three-meter diving events. The two look to be favorites going into their respective events in this season's meet.
Senior Rachel Hagerman appears to be a strong contender for the top spot in the 50 free and freshman Heather Kiluk could turn heads in the 200 IM. Michigan State also has much depth in its sprinters, who should be very competitive in Friday's match.
Looking ahead, both the men's and women's team will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. on Friday, Nov. 4, facing Purdue and Northwestern.
