Spartans Fall To Penn State, 1-0, In Double Overtime

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team fell to Penn State (8-6-2, 5-0-0), 1-0, in double overtime on Sunday. With the win, PSU clinched the Big Ten Regular Season Championship and the first seed in the Big Ten Tournament in Evanston, Ill. (Nov. 10-13). With the loss, MSU falls to 5-4-5 overall and 2-2-1 in the Big Ten.

"We played our hearts out today," said MSU head coach Joe Baum. "We outshot them, but if you can't score, you can't win. (Simon Omekanda) is a big time player. He is a threat every time he touches the ball. I told our guys I thought this game would come down to one big play, and they made the play and we did not."

Michigan State goalkeeper Jason Tillman (Jr., Brighton) made four saves on the afternoon, but did not have a chance to stop Penn State attacker Simon Omekanda's goal at the 104:56 mark. Tillman's streak of consecutive minutes without allowing a goal ended at 445:05, spanning five games, three of which were shutouts.

Next up for Michigan State, it faces Western Michigan on Wednesday, Oct. 26 at Old College Field at 3:00 p.m. and then travels to Wisconsin (Oct. 30) for its first road match since Oct. 2 at 3:30 p.m.
