Spartan Baseball Loses At North Florida, 18-1

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - North Florida outfielder Jeff Millsaps hit for the cycle and drove in seven runs to lead the Ospreys to an 18-1 victory over Michigan State Saturday, March 6 in the Kennel Club Classic at Harmon Stadium Jacksonville, Fla.
The Spartans (2-3) scored their only run in the first inning. Center fielder Travis Gulick (East Lansing, Mich.) doubled to right center and later scored on an RBI single to left by catcher Erik Morris (Orchard Lake, Mich.).
After the quick start, Michigan State produced only three more hits the rest of the game as North Florida out-hit the Spartans, 21-5.
Millsaps, who reached base five times for the Ospreys, went 4-for-4 and scored three runs. He singled in the first inning, walked in the third, doubled in the fourth (2 RBI), homered in the fifth (3 RBI) and tripled in the sixth (2 RBI).
North Florida also turned five double plays behind the 18-run effort.
Five pitchers made appearances for Michigan State, including starter Scott Koerber (Harper Woods, Mich.) who took the loss. Sophomore Chris Toepper (Portage, Mich.) pitched well in 1.2 innings of relief, allowing no hits while striking out three batters.
Michigan State returns to action Sunday, March 7 when it faces Butler at 6 p.m. in Jacksonville.
