MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Michigan State women's swimming and diving stands in 10th place through three sessions of competition at the 2004 Big Ten Championships at the University Aquatics Center in Minneapolis, Minn. The Friday (Feb. 20) session was paced by the 400 medley relay team's eighth place finish in the event.
After going 3-for-3 in breaking varsity relay records, the 400 medley relay team broke the streak Friday, narrowly missing the school record time of 3:47.42. Rachael Hagerman, Courtney Ellabarger, Tammy Jones and Eve Brusie combined for a time of 3:48.25 to lead Michigan State in the 400 medley relay.
"We were a little disappointed that our medley relay team was unable to continue the record-breaking streak tonight," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "I think some of our girls got intimidated early in the prelims, but I was extremely proud of the way they came back in the finals."
In diving action, the freshman duo of Katie Edwards and Amy Schmidt finished 20th and 21st, respectively. Edwards finished with a mark of 385.80 while Schmidt posted a mark of 377.10 to lead Michigan State.
