MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Michigan State women's swimming and diving continued its impressive relay performances Thursday night in Minneapolis as the 200 freestyle relay team touched out in 1:32.66, breaking a school record and finishing sixth in the event. Rachael Hagerman, Katrina Kniff, Eve Brusie and Tammy Jones led the Spartans in the relay.
Michigan State has destroyed three varsity relay records in three tries at the 2004 Championships. The 800 free relay and 400 medley relay each broke Michigan State records in the first day of competition (Feb. 18). This marks the second straight year the MSU 200 free relay team has broken the school event record at the Big Ten Championships.
"We're doing pretty good," said head coach Matt Gianiodis. "Tomorrow is another day - and who knows what might happen. Tonight, Eve Brusie really stepped it up with her finish in the 50 free. This team has really come together. One of our goals at the Championships was to break the school records in all our relays. We are 3-for-3 with two relays left."
A freshman and Grand Haven, Mich., native, Brusie notched an 11th-place finish in the 50 free, touching the wall in 23.34.
MSU women's swimming continues Big Ten Championship action through Saturday (Feb. 21) in Minneapolis.
