EAST LANSING, Mich. - Freshman Adam Schmitt had an exceptionally successful high school swimming career. He was two-time all-state and an All-American selection along with being a state champion in the 50 free and 100 free. He also was named Michigan High School Athlete of the year as a senior. These many accomplishments have led him to where he is today. Schmitt now competes in sprint free events for MSU and recently placed first in the 100 freestyle and second in the 200 freestyle against Iowa. The MSU swim team will host a dual meet with Michigan on Friday, Nov. 19 at 6p.m.
Q. How did it feel to come in first at Iowa in the 100 free and what did you do to prepare yourself mentally for that meet?
A. It felt really good; it was my first collegiate win so it was really exciting. I didn't really do anything mentally; I just went out and swam.
Q. What has been the biggest adjustment from high school swimming to swimming at the collegiate level?
A. Probably, the practices; they are harder than high school.
Q. What is the biggest challenge your team faces this season?
A. Last weekend we had a tri-meet against Pittsburgh and Notre Dame. We really wanted to win that meet
Q. What age did you start swimming?
A. I began swimming at age 14.
Q. Who has been the biggest influence on your swimming career?
A. I would say my parents have been the biggest influence.
Q. What do you like to do at MSU in your free time?
A. I like to just hang out with my friends during my free time.
Q. What is your favorite sport to watch other than swimming?
A. I like to watch hockey a lot.
Q. What would you like to be doing in 10 years; do you see yourself still swimming?
A. That's a tough question; I would like to be swimming still. And my major is electrical engineering so I would like a career in that.
