
Women's Soccer Falls To No. 5 Penn State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team fell to No. 5 Penn State, 3-0, at Old College Field in East Lansing, Mich. With the win, Penn State improves to 9-1-1 (5-0 Big Ten) on the season, while Michigan State drops to 8-4-1 (2-3-1 Big Ten).
After both teams battled in a scoreless first half, Penn State struck first in the 62nd minute on a shot by Alli Donofrio on an assist by Amanda Lentz. Tiffany Weimer scored more than three minutes later with another assist by Lentz to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead. Weimer assisted on Sarah Dwyer's goal in the 77th minute to complete the scoring for PSU.
Penn State held the advantage over the Spartans in both shot attempts (21-1) and corner kicks (5-1). Senior goalkeeper Erin Carlson (Portage) tied a career-high with eight saves for MSU.
"We were in this game and Penn State is great team because they made a great play," Michigan State head coach Tom Saxton said. "We showed character and we'll live to fight another day."
Michigan State will open a four-game road swing at Indiana on Friday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m.
