South Bend, Ind. - The Michigan State women's tennis team opened play at the 2004 Eck Classic Thursday night with three doubles matches vs. host Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish won all three matches.
In one doubles contest, senior Keri Thompson (Clark Lake, Mich.) and sophomore Sarah Andrews (Darwin, Australia) fell to Notre Dame's Brook Buck and Lauren Connelly, 8-1. The MSU duo of senior Karen Gustafson (East Lansing, Mich.) and freshman Christine Bader (Okemos, Mich.) fell by the same score to Notre Dame's Sarah Jane Connelly and Kristina Stastny.
The final doubles match was much closer, but junior Shelley Brady (Grand Blanc, Mich.) and sophomore Pascale Schnitzer (Santiago, Chile) stumbled after forging a 5-5 tie, falling to the Irish's Liz Donohue and Bailey Louderback, 8-5.
