EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State swimming and diving will host its annual alumni meet on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 9 a.m. The meet coincides with this weekend's Homecoming festivities at MSU.
The alumni meet is scheduled for the Charles McCaffree Pool at the IM West Building and includes the presentation of the William Heusner Memorial Service Award to four recipients, Geraldine James, Patti James, Dr. Larry Sierra and C. James Clemens.
Geraldine James has been a longtime supporter of MSU swimming and diving. Her daughter, Patti, also an honoree, was a four-year letterwinner for the Spartans and works in the intramural sports department.
Sierra is the director of intramural sports at MSU and worked with longtime head coach Charles McCaffree.
Clemens was the captain of the 1957 Big Ten Championship team and placed third in the NCAA Championships. He was a four-time All-American in 1956 and 1957, and has been a longtime supporter of MSU swimming and diving.
"We have been able to honor individuals who have done great things in order to help us improve our program," said MSU head coach Matt Gianiodis.
The award is named after Dr. William Heusner, a longtime supporter of MSU swimming and diving, and is given in recognition for outstanding service to the program. Previous award winners include Dr. Heusner, Dick Farnsworth and former Spartan swimmer Gary Dilley.
