Men's Golf Sits In Fifth At Badger Invitational

VERONA, Wis. - The Michigan State men's golf team sits in fifth place following the first round of the Badger Invitational. MSU shot an opening-round 301 at the par 72, 6,888 yard University Ridge Golf Course in Verona, Wis. Purdue (290) leads the field, while Kansas State (294) is second and UNC-Wilmington (295) is third.
Friday's first round had to be finished on Saturday (Sept. 13) after heavy rains washed out play for nearly 90 minutes yesterday. Second-round action began on Saturday, but play was suspended around 1:20 p.m. due to inclement weather. Due to weather concerns, the final six holes of the second round will be finished on Sunday (Sept. 14) and the third round will be cancelled.
In his first collegiate tournament, freshman Craig Revell (Kingston, Ont.) is tied for second heading into the final day of action. Revell shot an opening round 1-under 70 with five birdies on holes five, seven, 13, 15 and 18 and just three bogeys (holes two, four and 16). Purdue's Shiv Kapur sits atop the leaderboard after firing a 2-under 69 in his first round.
Redshirt freshman Zac Zedrick (Danville, Ill.) is tied for 14th after round one after shooting a 75, while freshman Matt Harmon (Grand Rapids, Mich.) sits tied for 27th after an opening round 77.
Rounding out the Spartan lineup is senior Ben Fox (Fort Wayne, Ind.), who is tied for 35th with a 79 and junior Andrew Ruthkoski (Muskegon, Mich.), who is 39th with an 80.
Following the Badger Invitational, MSU heads to the Inverness Intercollegiate Sept. 19-20.
