Several Spartans Shine at Bronco Open

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Michigan State men's track team competed, Saturday, April 19, at the Bronco Open on the campus of Western Michigan University. Four Spartans earned top-five finishes in separate field events in the non-scoring meet.
True-freshman Brian Sherwood (Fowlerville) continued his strong rookie campaign, taking first overall in the high jump and in the process qualifying for the NCAA Regionals, jumping 6-09 ?.
Two other top finishers were sophomore Chris Hohn (Pinckney) and redshirt-freshman Julien Williams (Orlando, Fla.). In the pole vault, Hohn tied for first with a mark of 15-04, while in the long jump, Williams also placed first with a leap of 22-00 ?.
Also qualifying for the NCAA Regionals on Saturday was junior Steve Manz (West Branch), who took first in the shot put with a toss of 56-09 ?. Manz just missed qualifying in the discus, with a throw of 163-10 ?, which was good for third place.
Next weekend, selected members of the men's track team will compete at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, while others will compete at Hillsdale. Both meets are scheduled April 25 and 26.
