ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State men's swimming and diving team finished in 10th place at the 2003 Men's Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., today. The Spartans had a strong showing by the freshmen class, as three Spartans advanced to the finals of their respective events. MSU totaled 146.50 points.
Ian Clutten (Capetown, South Africa) was once again the top Spartan, finishing eighth in the conference in the 200-breaststroke. Clutten touched the wall in 2:01.67. The Spartans' 400-freestyle relay team of Patrick Saucedo (Jackson, Mich.), Matt Wisniewski (Plymouth, Mich.), Nick DeFauw (West Bloomfield, Mich.) and Joe Brennan (Poway, Calif.) also finished in eighth place, with a time of 3:02.27.
Rudolf Wagenaar (Capetown, South Africa) claimed fifth in the consolation heat of the 200-backstroke with a time of 1:49.00, while David Habel (Cincinnati, Ohio) finished18th in the 1,650-freestyle event, touching the wall in 15:42.79.
