Kathleen Milloy has been named as an assistant coach for the Michigan State men's and women's swimming teams, head swimming coach Jim Lutz announced.
"I am extremely excited of having Kathleen on our staff, not only because of her experience at the college level, but also because of the success of the athletes she has coached." Lutz said.
Milloy joins the Spartan staff after serving three years as an assistant coach at Clemson University. While with the Tigers, Milloy coached six women that qualified for the NCAA Championships and three ACC Championship relay teams, each of which produced school record times.
Prior to her tenure with the Tigers, Milloy was an assistant head coach at the University of Toledo. With the Rockets, Milloy was responsible for training the stroke and IM athletes, which produced three conference champions. Also during her stay in Toledo, she was the Senior Swim Coach of the Greater Toledo Aquatic Club. She coached 13 athletes at the 1997 Summer Junior Nationals and three athletes at the 1997 Summer Senior Nationals.
The Ottawa, Ontario, native also served stints at Tennessee and Brown. While with the Volunteers, Milloy coached the school's first NCAA Champion, Nicole deMan, in the 50-freestyle. Milloy spent from 1992-95 with Brown, where she aided in rebuilding the women's program, taking the team from last in the Ivy League to a league championship in 1996.
"Having been at other conferences, she understands the respect that the Big Ten has nationally and the level at which the athletes perform," commented Lutz. "Kathleen will be a huge factor as a deck coach and in recruiting, as she is respected by club coaches around the country."
Milloy, who began her appointment with the Spartans on Friday, Aug. 30, graduated from Tennessee in 1991 with a bachelor's degree in psychology.
