BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Michigan State golfer Eric Jorgensen (Big Rapids, Mich.) was the lone Spartan to move into the next round of the Western Amateur, taking place this week at the Point O' Woods Golf and Country Club.
Jorgensen, the 2002 Big Ten Championship medalist and third-team All-American honoree, posted a 36-hole score of 1-over 143 (72-71). The top 50 golfers, including ties, advance to Friday's third and fourth round, during which the field will be pared to 16 players for match play Saturday and Sunday.
Spartans John Koskinen (Baraga, Mich.) and Ben Fox (Fort Wayne, Ind.) also took part in the two-day stroke play event but failed to advance. Koskinen finished in a 78th-place tie with a 6-over 148 (76-72). Fox carded a two-day score of 11-over 153(80-73), good for a 126th-place tie.
