EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State assistant swimming coach Matt Gianiodis has been promoted to the position of associate head coach. Third-year head coach Jim Lutz made the announcement effective July 1.
"Matt has been a vital part of the MSU swimming and diving program for the past five years," said Lutz. "This is confirmation from the athletic department how much they value him as a coach and a person."
During his tenure in East Lansing, Gianiodis has overseen all aspects of the swimming and diving program and has been directly responsible for summer camps and recruiting.
"Coach 'G' has established himself as a competent coach throughout the state of Michigan with the high school and club coaches who are vital to our success," added Lutz. "The coaches know that Matt is a straight shooter about their athletes and he has a tremendous heart for the well being of our swimmers and divers as people. It would be hard to find someone more Green and White than Matt."
Coach Gianiodis is eager to assume his new position with the program.
"I am very thankful for this promotion and the support from the athletic department," he said. "I love Michigan State and hope to be with the program for many years to come."
