The match with the Lions was added late last fall after Indiana State was dropped from the schedule. They have suffered losses to No. 21 Auburn, 7-0, and to Louisiana-Lafayette, 5-2. MSU defeated the Ragin' Cajuns in East Lansing 4-3 last season and Tuesday will mark a rematch. Their biggest win this season was a 4-3 victory over No. 65 New Mexico. Jason Pieters and Jason Illowski are ranked No. 15 and No. 18, respectively, for the South Central region. They are also ranked No. 13 in doubles. The Green Wave are once again a strong team this year. Led by Michael Kogan and Victor Romero, Tulane has posted victories over No. 30 South Florida and No. 45 Tulsa on its way towards a No. 34 ranking.
REST IS THE BEST MEDICINE: After a week where No. 2 Illinois, No. 7 Notre Dame and No. 50 Northwestern dealt tough losses to State, the Spartans received seven days to prepare for a long trip in which they will play three consecutive days beginning Monday, March 4. After the break, MSU returns home with a doubleheader against Bowling Green and Bradley March 16.
TWO MORE WINS: Head coach Gene Orlando needs only two more wins to reach 150 victories for his career. His record currently stands at 148-190 while he has a 117-150 record with the Spartans.
I'LL HAVE A NUMBER ONE BIGGIE SIZED: With his victory over Northwestern's Ryan Edlefsen February 23, Chris Mitchell recorded his fourth win of the season at one singles. This ties his best performanace at a singles position when he posted a 4-4 record at number three last season. It is also one more win than the Spartans had at this position in 2001 and matches Ivica Primorac's record in 2000. Trey Eubanks last put up more than four wins at one singles when he went 8-13 for the 1999 campaign.
