AUSTIN, Texas - The 2002 Women's Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped up its events on Saturday, March 23 at the University of Texas. On day three, Michigan State senior Kate Duncombe (Erie, Pa./McDowell) competed in the preliminary round of the 200-yard backstroke, but was unable to advance to the finals with a time of 2:01.94 for 35th place.
Duncombe broke the MSU record in the 100-yard backstroke on Friday night with a time of 55.27. She missed the final round by just .18 seconds, finishing 17th in the event.
Senior Carly Weiden (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) concluded her championships with a score of 446.30 in the three-meter dive for 24th-place finish overall. On Thursday, she tallied a score of 269.00 to take 11th place in the one-meter board.
