The Michigan State men's and women's swimming and diving program swept through the Big Ten Conference honors for the week of Dec. 23. Following victories by both the men's and women's teams against UC-Irvine, Joe Brennan (Poway, Calif.), Nick Visscher (Holland, Mich.), Rachael Hagerman (Goodland, Kan.) and Stephanie Anisko (Mississauga, Ont.) were honored by the league office for their individual accomplishments.
Brennan was named the Men's Swimmer of the Week after capturing a pair of first-place finishes against the Anteaters. The senior won the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events, with times of 1:43.37 and 4:39.92, respectively. Brennan also earned a second-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle event (47.62). His time in the 500 free was .400 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.
Visccher earned the Men's Diver of the Week award after meeting NCAA qualifying scores in both the one and three-meter events. He captured second-place in the three-meter with a score of 295.12. In the one-meter dive, the senior set a new season best score of 317.70. He claimed third-place honors on the event, behind teammate Justin Laskowski.
Freshman Hagerman claimed the first Women's Swimmer of the Week honor of her career, following a meet in which claimed a first-place finish in every event she competed in. Hagerman was a member of two winning relay teams, swimming in the final leg of the 200-yard medley relay and the lead-off leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay. Hagerman also claimed her third individual event title of the season in the 50-yard freestyle.
Anisko rounded out the Spartans' weekly award winners as she claimed the Big Ten Women's Diver of the Week award. Anisko won both the one-meter and the three-meter events against the Anteaters, meeting the NCAA qualifying standards on both boards. Recording a 266.77 on the one-meter event, the senior earned a 270.37 on the three-meter board. It is the second time this season that Anisko has swept the event titles at a meet, as she also won both boards at the Illinois Quad.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to action on Jan. 10, when they host Big Ten rival Northwestern at the Charles McCaffree pool in the IM West Building.
