EAST LANSING, Mich. - Four Michigan State men's soccer players earned All-Big Ten honors for the 2002 season, announced Thursday (Nov. 14) by the Big Ten Conference. Goalkeeper Tyler Robinson (Sr., Lansing) tied Indiana goalkeeper Jay Nolly for a spot on the first team, while Brett Konley (Sr., Plymouth), Nick DeGraw (Jr., Clinton Twp.) and Kevin Wittig (Jr., Newton, Pa.) all garnered second-team honors.
It is the most All-Big Ten honorees the Spartans have had since 2000 when five players earned the honors.
Robinson's first-team selection marks the third-consecutive season Michigan State has placed a player on the first team. T.J. Lieckfelt was the last Spartan goalkeeper to earn first-team honors in 2000.
Robinson had a breakout year for the Spartans in goal, posting six shutouts, while leading the Big Ten in saves per game average at 6.19 and total saves with 99. He has started all but one game this season.
Konley is MSU's leader in both points and goals. Through Thursday (Nov. 14), he had recorded nine goals and four assists for 22 points. His 22 points are the most by any Spartan since 1994.
For the second-consecutive season, DeGraw earned second-team honors. He started every game this season at midfield and has been steady all season. He scored four goals over a four-game span to close out the regular season and has 11 points through Thursday.
Wittig has been the strongest Spartans defender this season. He has chipped in five assists and has started all but one game.
