The Michigan State swimming and diving teams will host intra-state rival Eastern Michigan on Friday, Nov. 15, at the Charles McCaffree pool in the IM West Building. The first event is slated to begin at 6 p.m.
RECAPPING THE WEEK
Michigan State (Men: 0-5, 0-2 Big Ten / Women: 1-3, 0-1 Big Ten) suffered a setback to Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind., on Nov. 8. The men fell 140.50-12.50, while the women dropped a 191-118 decision. The men returned home on Nov. 9 to host No. 7-ranked Michigan, where they fell 145-98.
SCOUTING EASTERN MICHIGAN
The Eastern Michigan men are 2-1 this year, with their only loss coming to nationally ranked Michigan. The Eagles have posted 22 Mid-American Conference championships over the past 26 years. The EMU women are 3-1 on the season after splitting a pair of conference meets last weekend. The Eagles have posted large margins of victory in two of their three wins, outscoring the competition in those meets by an average of 158 points.
"We're looking to compete at this meet," associate head coach Matt Gianiodis stated. "We are getting ready for the (Pittsburgh) Invitational. We've been finishing strong and that's encouraging. I think that this meet will be a good springboard into the rest of the season."
MAKING A MARK Four members of the Michigan State swimming and diving team are ranked among the nation's elite in the College Quick 50 rankings. Freshman Ian Clutten leads the way with two top-times. Clutten is 19th in the 200 breaststroke, posting a top-time of 2:03.27. He is also 35th in the country for the 100 breaststroke event (57.77). Senior Joe Brennan is ranked 29th in the 200 freestyle, with a time of 1:40.56. David Habel is ranked in the 1000 freestyle, with his time of 9:31.68 earning him a ranking of 46th. On the women's side, Rachael Hagerman has earned national notice for her performance in the 50 freestyle event. Her time of 24.05 places her 41st.
