Women's Soccer Overwhelms IPFW, 4-0

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team outshot IPFW by a count of 27-7 en route to a 4-0 win over the Mastadons, Tuesday (Oct. 8) afternoon at Old College Field. The win marked the sixth time the Spartans have shutout an opponent this season. MSU is now 9-3 on the season, while IPFW falls to 1-8.
"I have to give IPFW a lot of credit," said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. "It is their first official year in Division I and they are having a rough year, but they battled throughout today's game. In the beginning of the game, we were doing things that we should not do. Once we settled down, things began to fall into place."
Tiffany Laskowski (Jr., Troy) put MSU on the board at the 17:17 mark with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. Emma Harris (Fr., Portage) drew an assist on the goal. The Spartans doubled their lead just before halftime when Laskowski took the ball from midfield and passed to Erin Konheim (Fr., West Bloomfield) for the goal.
"Tiffany was very important to our team today,"said Saxton. "She played with a lot of fire and that got us going."
MSU wasted little time in the second half, scoring twice in 36 seconds. Konheim scored the first goal of the two and her second of the game as she took a lob pass from Harris and put it in the back of the net. Michelle Perun (Jr., Rochester) closed out the scoring for the Spartans at the 50:46 mark as Laskowski and Konheim each assisted on the goal.
Erin Carlson (So., Portage) got her first start of the season in goal for Michigan State, and earned her first shutout by making three saves.
This weekend, MSU resumes conference play as it travels to Indiana on Friday (Oct. 11) and Purdue on Sunday (Oct. 13).
