MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Michigan State men's tennis team went 4-4 in individual singles and 2-2 in doubles contests at the Minnesota Invitational Saturday (Oct. 12) against Boston College. The team used all eight players in the hidden-dual format versus the Eagles.
State's four defeats in singles play came by way of third-set, ten-point tiebreakers. But seniors Adam Hourani (Lansing, Mich.) and Jimmy McGuire (Columbus, Ohio), junior Mike Jonckheere (London, Ont.) and sophomore Cameron Marshall (Louisville, Ky.) only needed two sets to secure their respective victories. Hourani cruised past Ross Pytko, 6-3, 7-5, while fellow co-captain McGuire also gave up only eight games by defeating Chris McCoy, 7-6, 6-2. To secure the tie, Jonckheere beat Bob Murray, 6-3, 7-5, and Marshall eased past Brad Anderson, 7-5, 6-4.
Hourani and McGuire added a doubles win with an 8-6 victory over Anderson and Justin Slattery while Marshall and his partner junior Eric Simonton (Annandale, N.J.) cruised by Murray and Paul Colahan, 8-4.
MSU will wrap up its stay in the Twin Cities Sunday (Oct. 13) with a 10:30 a.m. match against Minnesota.
