Hoosiers and Lions Defeat Women's Swimming and Diving

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After two days of events, the Michigan State women's swimming and diving team fell to Indiana and Penn State in Bloomington, Ind. on Saturday, January 26. The Spartans tallied 90 points against Indiana's 278, while finishing with 113 versus the Nittany Lions' 251. Penn State defeated IU, 209 to 159.
The Spartans' strongest results came in diving events, as senior Carly Weiden (Kentwood, Mich./East Kentwood) took first place in the one-meter (312.35) and the three-meter (303.95) boards.
In individual swimming events, senior Ildiko Szekely (Budapest, Hungary/Mercersburg Academy) earned MSU's highest finish, taking first place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:02.29. Katie Duncombe (Erie, Pa./McDowell) and Jen Windstein (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) also contributed to the Spartan effort, as Duncombe took second place in the 100-yard backstroke (57.06), while Windstein placed third in both the 1650 freestyle (17:07.23) and the 500 free (4:56.81).
The Spartans return to action on Saturday, February 2, against Northern Michigan in East Lansing.
