Men's Swimming Falls To Ohio State, 149-94

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's swimming and diving team fell to Ohio State, 149-94, Saturday morning (Jan. 19) at the Charles McCaffree Pool on the MSU campus. MSU is now 3-5 (0-3 Big Ten) on the season.
Aaron Mahaney (Sr., Easton, Pa.) and Scott Shafer (Sr., Centerville, Pa.) led the men with two first-place finishes apiece. Mahaney won the 1000 free (9:25.37) and 200 fly (1:51.74), while Shafer won the 200 free (1:40.32) and 100 free (46.74). Other top peformers included Joe Brennan (Jr., Poway, Calif.), who took third in the 200 free (1:41.94) and 500 free (4:35.50) and Peter Politi (Fr., Newburgh, N.Y.), who placed third in the 100 free (46.99).
Nick Visscher (Jr., Holland) took third in the 1-meter diving event (267.68) and Justin Laskowski (Fr., Bay City) placed fourth in the 3-meter (258.68).
"I thought Mahaney, Shafer and Brennan swam really well," said MSU Head Coach Jim Lutz. "They fought hard and competed tough in every race they swam in today."
The men return to action Friday, Feb. 8 to face Michigan in Ann Arbor.
