East Lansing, Mich. - The MSU men's soccer team used two second half goals by freshman Ryan McMahen (Munster, Ind.) to defeat Cleveland State, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Old College Field. With the win, Michigan State improves to 3-0.
Allthough the Spartans dominated the first half, they were unable to find the back of the net. In the second half McMahen scored the first of his two goals at 58:03 off a pass through the middle from junior Brett Konley (Plymouth).
After fending off a Cleveland State offensive flury in the final two minutes, McMahen again took a pass from Konley to score the final goal of the afternoon and securing the Spartans 2-0 victory.
"It was a solid effort today," said MSU head coach Joe Baum. "After Friday's cancellation (due to poor weather), we had some frustration and today we came out with pretty good focus. We really went at them offensively and I thought we ran them down towards the end."
The Spartans will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., next weekend, Sept. 14-16, for a pair of games. They will take on UNLV, Friday at 7:30 and Drury at 2 p.m. Sunday.
