East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State women's soccer team tied Wisconsin, 0-0, Friday afternoon at Old College Field. The Spartans are now 3-3-2 and 0-2-1 in the Big Ten.
Spartan goalkeeper Stacy Heller (So., Madison, Wis.) kept the game scoreless in the first half, making three saves. Wisconsin outshot MSU 6-3 for the half.
The second half saw the Spartans outshoot Wisconsin, 7-2, as they put more pressure on the Badgers. However, they were unable to find the back of the net.
In overtime, each team combined for scoring opportunities. State's Tiffany Laskowski (So., Troy) fired a shot over the crossbar on a breakaway in the second extra session while Heller came up with three big saves at the other end to ensure the tie.
"Stacy (Heller) is a very, very good goalkeeper. She kept us in the game today when we were down at times," said MSU head coach Tom Saxton. "I was proud of our effort today, we stepped it up from last week so we took a step in a positive direction."
The game proved to be physical, as the two teams combined for 63 fouls and four yellow cards.
State returns to action Sunday, Sept. 30 at Old College Field when they host Northwestern at 1 p.m.
