Men's Soccer Defeats Valpo, 3-2

East Lansing, Mich. - The MSU men's soccer team downed Valparaiso, Friday Sept. 21 by a score of 3-2. With the scored tied at two at halftime, freshman Ryan McMahen (Munster, Ind.) took a pass from Jeff Krass (Brighton) and broke the tie in the 59th minute to give State the win. MSU now stands at 4-1 on the season, while Valpo falls to 2-3.
Valpo got on the board first with a goal in the 20th minute, however the Spartans responded just 10 seconds later when McMahen scored off a pass from Krass. Michigan State took the lead five minutes later when Jordan Gruber (Fr., Beverly Hills) scored off a header.
The Crusaders tied the game at two before the end of the half when Scott Daly scored his second goal of the game.
MSU outshot Valpo by a count of 25-14 in the contest, including a 14-5 advantage in the second half. Mike Robinson (Jr., Troy) made three saves for MSU in the win.
State will travel to Bloomington, Ind., Sunday, Sept. 23, to open the Big Ten season as they take on the Indiana Hoosiers beginning at 3 p.m. EDT.
