EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State men's soccer team will face Western Ontario in an exhibition contest on Sunday at 2 p.m. at Old College Field on the Michigan State campus. This will be the Spartans' only exhibition contest of the fall as the Spartans open the regular season on Saturday, Sept. 1 vs. Wisconsin-Green Bay (2:30 p.m.).
Led by 25th-year head coach Joe Baum, the Spartans are coming off a very successful 2000 season, which saw them post an 11-6-2 record. In Big Ten action, Michigan State was 4-1-1, good for second place. The Spartans return five of their top six scorers from the 2000 squad along with first-team All-Big Ten selection Steve Arce (Sr., Windsor, Ontario) and second-team honorees Scott Babinski (Sr., Livonia) and John Minagawa-Webster (So., Monroe).
