MSU Divers Finish Third At U.S. Outdoor Nationals

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - MSU divers Summer Mitchell (Troy, Mich.) and Carly Weiden (Kentwood, Mich.) closed the U.S. National Outdoor Diving Championships by placing third in the 3-meter synchronized competition at the International Swimming Hall of Fame Aquatic Complex today (Sunday).
The pair, who also placed third in Tuesday's preliminaries, earned bronze medals by posted a score of 262.23 in today's finals. Lane Bassham and Lauryn McCalley of the Moss Farms diving team won the event with a score of 286.89 while Team Orlando Diving's Nicole Bolt and Chelsie Lerew finished second with a score of 266.43. Three pairs representing Indiana Diving - Erin Quinn and Sara Reiling, Jennifer Sonneborn and Mamie Goodson and Lori Matthys and Lindsay Weigle - took fourth through sixth places, respectively.
Mitchell, who is entering her junior year at MSU, and Weiden, who will be a senior this year, are the reigning Big Ten Co-Divers of the Year. Both competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter individual competitions at the Outdoor Nationals.
