Women's Gymnastics Defeats Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh, Pa. - The 23rd-ranked Michigan State women's gymnastics team defeated Pittsburgh 195.275-192.150 on Monday afternoon in Pittsburgh. It was the second-highest score of the season for MSU, including a season-high vault score of 48.875.
A different Spartan won each individual event. Sophomore Christy Linder won the all-around as the only competitor, with a 39.225, second-best on the season. She was in the top three in each of the four events.
Senior Elisabeth Forshier won the vault with a season-high 9.825. Linder and freshman Lindsey Voth tied for second at 9.800. Sophomore Diana Crea took first place on the uneven bars with a season-high and meet-high score of 9.875, while Linder tied for third at 9.775. On the balance beam, sophomore Julie Devaty and Linder tied for top honors, along with Pittsburgh's Rebecca Singleton at 9.850. On the floor, Jane McIntosh, competing with a broken index finger, continued her dominance, winning with a 9.850, while Linder tied for third.
Michigan State is now 12-4 on the season. The Spartans return to action on Friday, March 9 at No. 18 Louisiana State at 7 p.m. before returning home to host defending national champion and current No. 1 UCLA on Sunday, March 11 at 1 p.m. in Jenison Field House.
