Women's Gymnastics Finishes Sixth at Big Ten Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Michigan State women's gymnastics team placed sixth (of seven) at the Big Ten Championships, hosted by the University of Michigan on Saturday, March 24. Michigan won the meet with a score of 197.150. The Wolverines were followed by Penn State (196.425), Minnesota (195.750), Ohio State (195.425), Iowa (195.400), Michigan State (193.975) and Illinois (193.375).
The Spartans scored a 48.600 on the vault, a 48.650 on the uneven bars, a 48.100 on the balance beam, and a 48.625 on the floor.
Sophomore Christy Linder (Fremont, Ohio) led MSU, scoring a 38.975 in the all-around competition while placing seventh. Linder performed consistently at the Championships, earning a 9.725 or higher on every event.
On the floor, senior Elisabeth Forshier (South St. Paul, Minn.) tied for seventh place with a season-high 9.850. MSU's other top 10 score came from senior Melissa Green (East Lansing). Green tied for eighth with a 9.875.
MSU awaits word to see if it will advance to the NCAA Regionals, which take place on April 7 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. at 6 p.m.

Big Ten Champions included Chrissy Michaud (Mich.) and Stephanie Gran (Iowa) on the vault with a 9.950, Bridget Knaeble (Mich.) with a 9.975 on the bars, Shannon MacKenzie (Mich.) on the beam and Alexis Maday (Iowa) with a 9.975 on the floor and a 39.650 in the all-around competition.
