Women's Golf Concludes Fall Season With First-Place Finish

SOUTH PINES, N.C. - The Michigan State women's golf team concluded the fall season with a first-place finish at the Pine Needles Invitational Tuesday, Nov. 6. The Spartans shot a two-round score of 303-300-603 to capture the tournament title for a second-consecutive year at the Pine Needles Golf Course in South Pines, N.C. Kent State, who led the Spartans by five strokes Monday, fell to second with a 298-307-605.
Junior Allison Fouch (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) captured medallist honors with a two-day total of 74-71-145. Kent State's Jan Dowling and Martina Gillen, who were first and second Monday, tied for second with an overall score of 146.
Senior Emily Bastel (Upper Sandusky, Ohio/Upper Sandusky) rebounded from a tie in 27th place Monday to finish in a tie for fifth (79-70-149). Junior Ann Marie Kersten (Oak Harbor, Ohio/Oak Harbor) carded a 76-79-155 to tie for 16th,while senior Stacy Snider (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grandville) finished in a tie for 20th, shooting a 77-80-157. Sophomore Sarah Martin (Grosse Ile, Mich./Grosse Ile) rounded out the Spartans with a tie for 30th, carding a 76-83-159.
This tournament concludes the Spartan women's golf fall season. The Spartans will open the spring season with the TRW Regional Challenge in Los Angeles, Calif., February 11-13.
