TOLEDO, Ohio - A shutout performance by Spartan goalkeeper Stacy Heller (So., Madison, Wis.) ensured a 2-0 victory for the MSU women's soccer team Wednesday afternoon in Toledo, Ohio. Heller now has shutouts in six of the Spartans' nine wins this season as State improves to 9-7-2 overall while Toledo falls to 6-10-1.
MSU scored the only goal it would need at the 29:01 mark when Adrienne Treado (Fr., Troy) put home a pass from Heidi Lutz (Jr., San Ramon, Calif.) to make the score 1-0. The Spartans proved to be tough defensively in the first half as well, surrenduring no shots on goal.
State sealed the game in the 60th minute as Nicole LePlae (Sr., Brighton) scored her first goal of the season off a feed from Michelle Perun (So., Rochester), giving the Spartans a 2-0 win. The Spartans applied pressure all half as they registered 12 shots to give them a total of 20 for the game.
The Spartans will play their final game of the regular season, Friday, Nov. 2 at 3 p.m. at Old College Field against Kent State.
