Madison, Wis. - The MSU men's soccer team fell at Wisconsin Sunday afternoon by a score of 5-3. The Badgers put the Spartans in a hole quickly as they scored three goals in the first half. MSU is now 9-4-1 on the year and 3-3 in the Big Ten while Wisconsin improves to 8-7-1 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
After the Badgers put up three goals in the first half, the Spartans got on the board in the 66th minute when Ryan McMahen (Munster, Ind.) scored unassisted. Wisconsin quickly retalliated however, as Dominic DePra scored two goals within a 1:56 minute span to boost the Badgers lead to 5-1.
The Spartans refused to give up as Jordan Gruber (Beverly Hills) scored off a pass from Jeff Krass (Brighton) at the 81:30 mark. MSU capped off the scoring unexpectedly just 30 seconds later when goalkeeper Mike Robinson (Troy) scored unassisted off a goal kick that was aided by the wind and bounced over the head of Wisconsin goalkeeper Phil Ayoub to make the final score 5-3. Robinson recorded six saves on the day.
MSU closes out the regular season Friday, Nov. 2 when they play at IUPUI at 4 p.m. EST.
